The National Charter School School Resources Center (NCSRC) in 2020 released a paper on the “Indicators of Distress in Charter Schools”. This work set out to design specific indicators that schools and sponsors should watch out for, as they could be early signs of future problems. Impressed with the work of the NCSRC and seeing this as a valuable resource, the Florida Charter Institute has developed this online tool for schools to survey stakeholders to help identify potential areas of concern that they may wish to proactively focus on.
We recommend that school leaders create an account and invite key stakeholders to participate. This would include school administrators or high-level staff members, governing board members, and other people with a vested interest and regular interaction with the school's leadership (i.e. parent-teacher organization president, management staff, etc.). Administrators can create an account below, set up a school, and then invite members. Each participant will receive a custom unique URL that they must use to be able to complete the survey. If you are here to complete a survey, please get your unique link from your email or school administrator who set up the survey.
Some resources maybe Administrators who create an account below will receive a verification email and then can log into the system to set up the basic information about your school and invite the stakeholders. They will receive an email inviting them to complete a 56 question survey that aligns with the NCSRC's indicators of distress. Once enough people complete the survey, the administrator will be able to generate a PDF report identifying areas they may wish to focus on. Over time, the Florida Charter Institute will also add additional resources that are connected to each potential distress area.
